A is for albatross, hanging around someone’s neck.

B is for battles, usually unnecessary.

C is for cabbage, a vegetable I usually ignore.

D is for dusting, a task I rarely take on.

E is for evenings, when I choose to relax.

F is for fire, a pleasure most days but a necessity when there’s a power outage.

G is for goodness, a goal .

H is for Harvey, my last name, which still doesn’t feel like mine.

I is for I, whoever I am. I’m learning to know myself.

J is for justice, which isn’t necessarily the same as fairness.

K is for kisses, which I would like to have more of.

L is for lobster, an animal I used to eat and loved to eat, but which I no longer eat.

M is for minister, whom my parents wanted me to marry.

N is for necklace, something I love to wear but seldom do.

O is for orange, a vibrant colour.

P is for pasture, where cows contentedly eat the grass.

Q is for question, of which I have many.

R is for recess, a time to play when you’re at school

S is for sunshine, that feels so good on my face.

T is for time, which is running out for me.

U is for understanding, of which I yearn for more.

V is for vacation which is what retirement is supposed by some to be.

W is wind which feels refreshing on my face.

X is for x-ray of which I’ve had a few

Y is for youth, something long past  but remembered with happiness

Z is for Zebra, which I was taught to say with a short E.
